The litigation section has nine datasets. Below is a description of each chart to help to choose relevant one for your analysis.

Litigation by plaintiff and start year

Use this chart to show trends over time in the number of new suits the sector (companies selected) are FILING. Use this to see if companies are becoming more or less litigious.

Litigation defensive table

Detailed view of all lawsuits filed against the sector (selected company / companies), here you can see the detail of the plaintiffs, patents used, duration and click into the full court documents. Here you can also see the ones filed by NPEs.

Litigated patent families by organisation

See how many (and which) patent families that have been actively used in litigation by the sector (selected companies), used in cases where they were plaintiffs. This will tell you which organisation that uses most patents to litigate and works as an indicator of how litigious they area.

Litigated patent families by technology

See how many (and which) patent families that have been actively used in litigation by the sector (selected companies), and within which technologies (our technology clusters) they fall. These are patents used in cases where they were plaintiffs - so it will tell you in which areas these companies are actively going after (suing) companies.

Litigated patent families by technology and organisation

See how many (and which) patent families that have been actively used in litigation by the sector (selected companies), and within which technologies (our technology clusters) they fall. These are patents used in cases where they were plaintiffs - so it will tell you in which areas these companies are actively going after (suing) companies.

Litigation balance

Shows the split between incoming (suits where they are defendant) and plaintiff suits. To show if companies are aggressive or not (i.e. suing more than they are sued). Note - this also includes NPE suits.
 
Cross Litigation

This chart will show you the number of cross litigations between all of the organisations selected in the report. Use this chart to see how many times these entities have sued each other.

General Tips

  • The count is based on intellectual property-related litigations only.
  • The outcome of the cases is tallied according to Settled, Won, Lost, Active or Other.
  • Where an organisation has not incurred litigation, they are not listed.
